Aquarium Sharks

The silver Shark has been affectionately called “The Gentle Giant” due to its larger size and peaceful nature. This beautiful freshwater fish would make a wonderful addition to your freshwater aquarium.

Juvenile silver sharks do well in a community aquarium. As they mature, however, they will eventually outgrow most tanks, and they will continue to grow for several years.

An aquarium of 120 gallons is needed to keep a school of adult silver sharks, and since they are active swimmers, a longer tank is recommended. This will give them enough room to swim freely and be comfortable. They have been known to jump from tanks, so a good tight fitting hood is a necessity for this fish. As per their natural habitat driftwood and decent-sized rocks can be included at the base of the tank. Floating plants can be added in the aquarium to make them feel secure.

Juvenile sharks can be kept with a wide variety of fish due to their generally peaceful nature. As they grow larger, though, they will sometimes eat small fish, particularly sleek fish, such as the neon tetra. They also tend to scare the shy and slow-moving fish, due to their constant, vigorous activity in the tank. They should not be housed with invertebrates, such as snails or shrimp, as these are always part of their diet in the wild. They are sensitive to water conditions, it is important to maintain the below given parameters.

Fishes

These fishes have gray or silver bodies. They have large eyes, and a deeply forked yellow-tinged tail. The dorsal, caudal, pelvic, and anal fins are all edged in deep black. They are commonly known as Bala shark, silver shark, tricolor shark, and tricolor shark minnow.

Fresh water fishes

The silver shark (Balantiocheilosmelanopterus) is a freshwater species of the Cyprinidae family.

They are native to the rivers of Southeast Asia. They are not true sharks, but their shark-like appearance and size make them a fascinating pet. 

Ornamental fishes

These Ornamental fishes are peaceful shoaling fishes. They are less aggressive and territorial than actual freshwater sharks. They are Omnivorous. They will eat whatever you place in the tank. Give them a well balanced healthy diet consisting of both meaty and green foods. When they are smaller you should feed them flakes and occasionally Algae Wafers that sink to the bottom of the tank. Catfish pellets can be fed as they start to grow into adults. 

Medium size fishes

They should be kept in school of four or more; when kept alone, they tend to be both timid and skittish.

They will grow up to 14 inches. The life span is up to 10 years.
