Zebra Danios can share their aquarium with other community aquarium fish of similar size and temperament. Instead of plants, they eat aquatic crustaceans, worms and aquatic insect larvae.
Danios are schooling fish that like to swim in groups and should be kept with three or more other fish of the same species.
You will see them swimming in the middle of your aquarium. To create a beautiful aquarium environment, be sure to add some top and bottom swimmers as well.
The zebra fish is about 2.5 cm to 4 cm long. In its larval stages it is transparent and as it matures to an adult it develops stripes that run along the length of the body. Males are slender and torpedo-shaped usually with a pink or yellow tinge.
On average Zebra fish have a lifespan of three and a half years (3.5years). However, some live up to 5.5 years. Most danios tolerate a wide range of water chemistry and temperature, making them ideal beginner fish. pH should be between 7.0 and 7.8, alkalinity between 3° and 8° dkH (50 ppm to 140 ppm) and temperature between 70° and 78° F.
