Poeciliid fishes

Molly fishes are one of the most popular freshwater species in the aquarium hobby even for beginners.

Fishes

Molly fish (Poecilia sphenops) belongs to Poeciliidae family. In the wild, they can be found throughout North and South America. 

Fresh water fishes

They are peaceful in nature and can be kept with other fishes. You should keep a group of at least four fish to be comfortable in the aquarium. Avoid any fish that shows aggressive behavior. Also, try to keep similarly-sized fish. Larger fish could bully or even try to eat your molly. They may become aggressive during breeding. Some ideal tank mates are Cherry Barb

Molly fishes are very adaptable. They can live in pure freshwater environments in their entire lives. They like warm waters, neutral pH, and hard water. In order to mimic their natural environment, first add sand or gravel substrate. Then add live plants in the aquarium like Anubias and Java fern, because they use these plants for shelter. Also add decor items in the tank such as rocks, caves, and driftwood which will provide some additional shelter to them. And it can develop algae for your mollies to eat.

Standard lighting should be included in the tank. A powerful filtration system is required because they produce lot of waste.

Small Fishes

A full-grown molly fish will usually be around 3 inches or 7 cm long, the males, whereas the females are a bit larger and can grow to around 4 inches or 10 cm long. The life span is 3 to 5 years.

Color fishes 

Mollies are usually black or gold and sometimes with the front half mostly yellow to gold and the rare half black. This species is also called gold panda molly. They have a flattened body with a triangular-shaped head.

Their body is wide at the mid-section, and tapers down to a narrow point at the snout. Also the body tapers slightly towards the base of the fan-shaped tail. Males are smaller than females. Males have a pointy anal fin. On the other hand, the anal fin of female is broad and fanned.
