Cichlid fishes

Red Spot Severum fishes are vibrant and colorful fishes which will add beauty to any aquarium. This variant of the Severum are selectively bred color form of the Green Severum. They share the same qualities as the Green and Golden Severum.

Fishes

Red Spot Severum (Heros Severus) belongs to cichlidae family. They are originated from Amazon, Orinoco and Essequibo River basins in South America. 

Fresh water fishes

Red-spotted severums can be kept with other fish of their same size and temperament.

They can be kept in large community tank with other peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates.

Their tank mates are Angelfish, Plecos, Horseface Loaches, Ropefish, and Brown Hoplos.

Ornamental fishes

These Ornamental fishes are omnivores. You can feed them with flakes, pellets, tablets and other processed foods. Also, small insects, larvae, small crustaceans can be given. Some Vegetables such as peas, cucumbers, zucchini and lettuce are a staple to them and some of their preferred aquarium vegetation is the Canadian-water weed and Brazilian elodea. Supplement their food with some live foods such as frozen blood worms, brine shrimps, crickets and earthworms. You should feed them at least once or twice per day. Feed them with enough food for a 3-5 minutes feast.

Aquarium fishes

They require an aquarium with dense plant vegetation and lots of shelter spots. For this driftwood, rocks, and caves can be added in the aquarium which will mimic their natural environment. Also add fine sand or smooth gravel substrate. Plants such as Anacharis, Cabomba, and Hornwort can be placed in the aquarium.

The tank water can either be fresh or brackish and they prefer moderate water movement with efficient filtration.

pH: 6.0-7.5

Small Fishes

They reach a maximum size of 8 inches. The life span is 10 years.

Color fishes

Red Spotted Severums have a bright orange-red color found on their bellies, pelvic and anal fins with small red spots throughout their whole bodies. Male fishes are Larger in size while females are smaller. Male have pointed dorsal  and anal fins, also have markings around their gill area but the female have less marking around their gill area, the dorsal and anal fin is not pointed.
